CALL FOR EMERGING LIGHTING DESIGNER

POSITION TITLE: Lighting Designer

PRODUCTION TITLE: Cocktails at Pam’s written and directed by Stewart Lemoine
LOCATION: Varscona Theatre, 10329 83rd Ave NW, Edmonton

DESIGN FEE: $2900 (plus GST if # provided)

OVERVIEW:

Teatro Live! is seeking an emerging lighting designer for our July production of Cocktails at Pam’s, written and directed by Stewart Lemoine, and to be produced at the Varscona Theatre. This opportunity is intended for a professionally trained designer in the early stages of their career, under the age of 30 in alignment with the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program, which supports quality summer employment opportunities for young professionals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consult with the director and other designers to develop the lighting design. The lighting design must consider the size, shape and technical capacity of the theatre, the visibility of performers and the mood of each scene. The design must also complement the set design, makeup and costumes.

  • Create lighting plots, schedules, and equipment lists. 

  • Hang and focus the lighting instruments, as needed with help from the PM or TD.

  • Create and program all lighting cues.

Pam was always the perfect hostess. Until the night there were more flowers than suitable vases… until the divorcée didn’t like her canapé… until… charades…

Running time: 75 minutes, no intermission.

KEY PRODUCTION DATES: 

  • Rehearsals: June 25 - July 5, 2026

  • Load-In: June 29 - July 4, 2026

  • Tech Week: July 6 - 10, 2026

  • Performances: July 9 - 26, 2026

Lighting Designer must be available in-person for load-in and tech week. Ideally they would be in person for the first read-thru (June 25) and for a run for designers (date is TBC). Otherwise, all other design prep work will be remote.
