In addition to our 4 play series this season, we’re also very pleased to be programming a quartet of ancillary events, each occurring during the run of one of our mainstage shows. All will be hosted by artistic director Farren Timoteo and we guarantee they’ll be edifying, entertaining, and genuine riots of fun.
First up, on Sunday, November 23 at 7:30pm will be Farren: The Housewarming, in which our new artistic director welcomes ensemble members and other special guests to the Varscona stage to officially launch this new era at Teatro Live! It’ll be an old school Varscona-style chat show with songs, stories, and all the unexpected antics you’ve come to expect.
Event Number 2 taking place on Sunday, March 1 at 7:30pm will feature the reading of A Rarity From the Vaults of Lemoine. Celebrating the past has always been a big part of the Teatro present, so we’re thrilled to present Stewart Lemoine’s Fall Down, Go Boom; A Skater’s Tragedy in its first airing in three decades. Written to mark Edmonton’s hosting of the World Figure Skating Championships in 1996, it’s a delicious time capsule of a play, Lemoine’s only sports comedy, with a healthy dose of coruscating Greek tragedy thrown into the mix.
Our Third Event, on Sunday, June 14 at 7:30pm will be Pick Me! Pick Me!; A Celebration of the Theatrical Audition. In this freewheeling event, we explore the exhilarating and often treacherous symbiotic process by which theatres cast plays and actors get work. Teatro ensemble members and other special guests will perform monologues and songs, while sharing road stories both delightful and horrifying. We’ll also explore the terrors of cold readings, dance calls, and the treacherous fine line between auditioning for theatre and film. You’re sure to learn a lot!
Our final Event of the season will, appropriately enough, be our Season Finale, directly following the closing performance of Cocktails at Pam’s. Taking our cue from the play’s period setting, cast members and other special guests will perform A Salute to 1967! There’ll be songs from that year, plus a celebration of its plays and movies, as well as history and fashion. Food too, if we can find the right back issues of Chatelaine. It all takes place at a special time - Sunday, July 26 at 5pm - Cocktail Hour!
